Georg Schrimpf

Georg Schrimpf (1889 - 1938) was active/lived in Germany.  Georg Schrimpf is known for Still life, landscape and figure painting, woodcut magazine illlustration.

With the move to Berlin in 1915, Schrimpf began to increasingly follow his artistic calling and found a supporter there in Herwarth Walden, among others. He also got the opportunity to publish his woodcuts in the magazines Die Aktion and Der Sturm. His other sponsors also include Franz Roh and Werner Haftmann, and his attention and recognition grew visibly. In 1917 he married the painter and graphic artist Maria Uhden and moved with her near Munich, but Maria died in 1918 after the birth of their son.

Lively exhibitions and participations, among others in the Galerie Neue Kunst, with the Novembergruppe and the Neue Sezession followed in the next few years and Schrimpf's increasing popularity led from 1926 to 1933 to a teaching position at the Munich School of Applied Arts. From 1933 to 1937 he taught at the State University for Art Education in Berlin.
